Faith Formation at ABC!
Girls & Boys Ventures—Wednesday from 7-8:15 pm
ABC’s Ventures program is a weekly ministry that runs from the first week of October to spring break and is held at the church on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:15pm. This program is for ALL children in grades 3-6. The boys and girls gather together to have fun and learn about God’s love and how to share that with others. Our evenings together typically consist of a time with God through devotional and prayer, and an activity. In our devotional time we focus on Christian virtues so we can learn about Christ’s character and how to be the best child of God we can be. Our activities are very different from week to week, sometimes it’s strictly fun like gym night or a craft, other evenings it’s a service project like putting together MCC school kits and other times it’s learning something new like a business tour or woodworking project.
Children and Youth Sunday School—Sunday from 9:15 - 10:15 am
ABC’s Sunday school program consists of approximately 40 students from age 3 – grade 12 and runs each Sunday from mid September till mid June. Every Sunday from 9:15-10:15 those involved in Sunday school spend time in worship, teaching/learning, connecting and service/outreach projects.
Worship – A time of singing together
Teaching – We use the ‘Shine’ curriculum written by Menno Media for our lesson planning and teaching. This curriculum teaches God’s stories and lessons in an age appropriate way for every age group and is firm in the values and beliefs of the Mennonite faith.
Connecting – We value the one on one connection between peers and the student/teacher relationship so we strive for small classes each with their own teacher, and set aside time to get to know one another to build relationships that will last far beyond the Sunday school year.
Service/outreach projects – We want to share God’s love with others whether it is financially through offering projects or personally by helping with a project within our church or our community.
Youth Ministry
ABC's Junior and Senior youth groups meet weekly throughout the school year and gather for events spread throughout summer.
Our vision is to create a space for youth where God is real and active, where all are transformed in their relationships with God and with others, where we discover what it means that everyone is made in the image of God, and where all grow to be more like Christ as we enter God’s ongoing story of reconciliation and redemption.
Our mission is to be a sign and foretaste of God’s kingdom here in Altona and beyond, by nurturing youth, parents, families, and volunteers through worship, fellowship, teaching and service.
Our foundation rests of three core Anabaptist Christian principles
Adult Education - Book Study
Each spring and fall a book is chosen to read and discuss together as a group. The group gathers weekly to discuss each chapter. Contact church office for more info.
We gather to worship God on Sunday mornings at 10:30.
Our worship services include singing, praying, a time for children, a scripture reading, and a sermon. The sermon seeks to explore the meaning of a particular scripture text, foster a deeper commitment to Jesus, and inspire people in their walk with God. While our worship is a blend of more traditional styles with contemporary influences, our goal remains to join our hearts in worshiping God and to be nourished by His love.
